Gymnastics Isn't Just For Girls

About a year ago Michael and I had discussed putting Ryder in gymnastics. Multiple people told us that gymnastics is for girls and they used other terms to describe it for boys. This bothered me...why? Because there isn't a specific sport for specific genders. Gymnastics is all about strength, balance, and body control, who couldn't use a little bit of that?! Despite what other's have said I opted to sign Ryder up for gymnastics at The Little Kids Gym here in Lafayette, and then once fall arrives he will be attending Acadiana gymnastics. The reason being is that as some people already know, Ryder is involved in extreme sports and the older he gets, the more he will crash. Studies have shown that flexible athletes are less likely to get injuries from crashes and they have an overall better performance rate. Making this decision was not about Ryder's performance rate, it's about a mom who wants to possibly prevent her child from getting hurt.

Needless to say I decided to purchase two mats from Academy and work with Ryder on his stretching every morning, which is beneficial for him and me. At this point Ryder is able to touch his toes better than I am! If you are thinking about doing something to help your little ones this is it! Make it a game and make it fun for them. You will both benefit in the long run :)
